Where to begin to describe this plot!! The narrator of the book wants to write a novel about the day the first atomic bomb was dropped on Japan. As part of his research, he encounters the bizarre family of Doctor Felix Hoenikker, the genius scientist who fathered the atomic bomb. From there, his journey takes him to the island of San Lorenzo where he learns the religion of Bokonism, becomes president, and falls in love.
The characters he encounters are all so interesting and absurd that they alone could carry the novel. But then he weaves them in a tapestry which is funny and asks us all to reflect on the self-made problems our society has and the characters become even more complex. Oh, and did I mention that Felix has created a substance that turns liquid to solid and therefore could destroy the entire world?
I know there are so many more Vonnegut books to read, but I am now hooked.
